Meaning & Inspiration
Cedarmont Kids' "One Door and Only One" is built as a simple children's catechism, repeating the same pattern three times with a different image each round: a door with two sides, a Lord with two ways, a Book that tells of two places. Each verse ends by turning outward, asking directly which side, way, or place the listener has chosen.
The structure closely follows Matthew 7:13-14, where Jesus describes a narrow gate leading to life set against a wide gate leading to destruction, and John 10:9, where he calls himself the door itself. By keeping every verse short and nearly identical, the song avoids complicating what it treats as a simple binary: one right answer is named plainly - the inside, the right way, the good place - and the lyric states that choice each time rather than leaving the question unanswered. The repetition functions less like a warning and more like a memorized creed, meant to be sung back until the choice becomes automatic.
