About Steve Green
Steve Green was born on August 1, 1956, in Portland, Oregon, and grew up in South America, where his parents served as missionaries. He began his professional music career as a vocalist with the group Truth from 1976 to 1978. Green also sang tenor with the Gaither Vocal Band on their first two albums. In 1982, he helped form the Christian rock band White Heart, serving as its lead vocalist.
Green launched his solo career in 1984 with the release of his self-titled debut album on Sparrow Records. That same year, he established Steve Green Ministries. Over the years, he released a number of albums, including He Holds the Keys (1985), For God and God Alone (1986), A Mighty Fortress (1986), and Find Us Faithful (1988). His catalog also includes several Spanish-language recordings. Among his well-known songs are “People Need the Lord,” “Broken and Spilled Out,” and “Household of Faith.”
A seven-time Dove Award winner and four-time Grammy Award nominee, Green received the Dove Award for Male Vocalist of the Year in the Contemporary Christian category in 1985. In 2017, he was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, recognizing his contributions to Christian music over decades of ministry and recording.
