Sandi Patty, a prominent figure in contemporary Christian music, was born Sandra Faye Patty on July 12, 1956, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Her father was a minister of music and her mother was a church pianist, providing a musical foundation that led her to study voice and conducting at Anderson University. She began her professional career after signing with Singspiration! records and releasing her debut album, Sandi's Song, in 1979.
Patty gained national attention for her performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the 1986 Statue of Liberty re-dedication. Over the years, she released a series of well-received albums, including Lift Up the Lord (1982), More Than Wonderful (1983), Morning Like This (1986), Make His Praise Glorious (1988), and Another Time...Another Place (1990). Her vocal talent earned her the moniker “The Voice.”
Her achievements include five Grammy Awards, forty GMA Dove Awards, and four Billboard Music Awards. In 2004, she was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, and in 2007 she was named an Indiana Living Legend. Later in her career, she served as an Artist in Residence at Crossings Community Church and authored several books, including the memoir Broken on the Back Row. Her later releases include Songs for the Journey (2008) and Broadway Stories (2011).
