About John Mark McMillan
John Mark McMillan was born on November 27, 1979, in Charlotte, North Carolina, and grew up in a family of ministers. He began his musical journey as a child and released his debut album, Hope Anthology, Volume 1, in 2002.
His 2005 album The Song Inside: The Sounds of Breaking Down included the song "How He Loves," which became a widely recognized worship anthem. The song earned a GMA Dove Award nomination in 2010. McMillan continued to release music, including The Medicine (2008), Economy (2011), Borderland (2014), Mercury & Lightning (2017), and Cosmic Supreme (2025).
In 2014, McMillan co-founded the independent record label Lionhawk Records with Josh Lujan Loveless. That same year, his album Borderland debuted at No. 41 on the Billboard 200 and No. 4 on the Top Christian Album chart. His work has received multiple Dove Award nominations, including Worship Song of the Year for "Future/Past," Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year for The Borderland Sessions at the 46th Annual GMA Dove Awards, and a 2020 nomination for "Juggernaut" for Rock/Contemporary Recorded Song.
McMillan is married to Sarah Kathryn McMillan, and they have three children. In 2025, he announced that his then-current tour would be his final full-time tour, marking a transition after more than two decades of independent music ministry.
