Brenton Brown

Brenton Brown is a worship leader and songwriter whose songs have been sung in churches around the world. Born Brenton Gifford Brown on July 1, 1973, in Cape Town, South Africa, he holds dual South African and American citizenship. After studying politics, philosophy, and theology at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, he served as a worship pastor at the Oxford Vineyard church in the United Kingdom and later as a coordinator for the Vineyard (UK) Worship Development Team.

In 2008 Brown relocated to California, where he continued his ministry as a worship pastor at churches including Calvary Community Church and Vintage Church L.A. Alongside his pastoral work, he has written songs recorded by artists such as Third Day, Big Daddy Weave, Amy Grant, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, and Chris Tomlin. His own catalog includes widely sung worship songs including “Everlasting God,” “Lord Reign in Me,” “All Who Are Thirsty,” “Lion and the Lamb,” “Soul on Fire,” “You Know My Name,” “Humble King,” and “Hallelujah (Your Love Is Amazing).”

Several of Brown’s songs have received notable recognition. “Everlasting God” earned an ASCAP Award for most played song on radio. “Soul on Fire,” recorded by Third Day, was certified Gold by the RIAA. “Lion and the Lamb,” recorded by Big Daddy Weave, also achieved RIAA Gold certification. “You Know My Name,” recorded by Tasha Cobbs Leonard, reached RIAA Platinum status.

Throughout his career, Brown has navigated challenges related to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, a diagnosis he has shared publicly. Despite this, he has continued to contribute songs and leadership to worship communities, leaving a steady mark on contemporary Christian music through his songwriting and pastoral work.
