About Braille
Bryan Winchester, known as Braille, was born September 27, 1981, and is an American hip-hop recording artist, audio engineer, and pastor from Portland, Oregon. He adopted the stage name “Braille” to symbolize “helping people understand the things they can’t see.” He began writing and recording hip-hop music at age 13 and released his debut album, LifeFirst: Half the Battle, at age 17.
Braille is a member of the hip-hop groups Lightheaded and Beautiful Eulogy. In 2009, he co-founded the independent label Humble Beast Records. Since approximately 2018, he has served as a lead pastor at Saving Grace Church in Milwaukie, Oregon. His music frequently explores themes of faith, personal growth, and social awareness.
His album Shades of Grey (2004) was named Album of the Year and Braille was named Lyricist of the Year by the Sphere of Hip-Hop Awards in 2005. He was also named an “Artist to Watch” by URB Magazine in 2004, and he served as an opening act for James Brown during his 2005–2006 world tour. His other releases include The IV Edition (2008), Weapon Aid (2010), Native Lungs (2011), Satellite Kite (2014, with Beautiful Eulogy), Worthy (2017, with Beautiful Eulogy), and Handcrafted Raps (2024).
Braille also founded the creative brand Gospel Banquet to release music and merchandise with a mission to exalt Christ and engage hip-hop culture.
