About Anthony Brown
Anthony Brown is an urban contemporary gospel artist, songwriter, and worship leader. Born Anthony Jamar Brown on October 22, 1981, in Baltimore, Maryland, he began playing the piano at age three. Since June 2008, he has served as a worship leader at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
Brown performs with a background group known as group therAPy. His major label debut, Anthony Brown & group therAPy, was released in 2012 on Tyscot Records. The album featured the song “Testimony.” Earlier, in 2009, Brown wrote the song “It Ain’t Over,” which became a No. 1 gospel hit for Maurette Brown Clark.
Brown’s 2015 album Everyday Jesus included the single “Worth,” which held the No. 1 Gospel single spot for over 27 weeks. The song earned him a Grammy Award nomination for Best Gospel Performance/Song for “Worth (Live)” in 2015. He followed with the album A Long Way From Sunday in 2017.
In 2017, Brown won 10 Stellar Awards, the most won by any artist in a single year. He released 2econd Wind: Ready in 2019, which was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Gospel Album in 2020. His later releases include Stuck In The House: The Pandemic Project (2020) and Affirmations (2023).
