Meaning & Inspiration

I’ve been stuck on that line from Zechariah about not by might, nor by power, but by His Spirit. It’s funny how often I try to muscle through things on my own, thinking I’ve got the strength to change a situation or fix a heart, but Tasha and Kierra keep hitting that same nerve over and over. It’s like they’re stripping away the noise. The song keeps going back to that same declaration, and it feels right because it’s pulling straight from that place of total reliance on God to actually move the needle in our lives. It’s not about our effort at all.

Then there’s the part about being the temple. If my body is supposed to be that place, that dwelling, then the whole idea of Him breathing on me feels heavy, like it’s asking for something real. It’s like Ezekiel standing in that valley of dry bones. He didn’t have any power to make them live, right? He just stood there and watched God’s breath do the work. The song makes me wonder if I’m actually making space for that breath or if I’m just busy acting like I’m in charge of the temple.

When they sing about being called out of darkness into light, it’s that classic transition, the kind Peter talks about when he says we’re a chosen people. It feels good to hear that—the grace upon grace part—but it’s also a bit unsettling. If I’m really meant to be His song, am I just singing along to the melody He set, or am I trying to write my own lyrics? I find myself wanting to believe it’s all Him, just like the song says, but I’m usually the one grabbing for the pen. It’s hard to just be the breath-filled temple when I’m so used to being the builder.
