Lyrics
Mfalme wa mataifa wewe ni wathamana sana
mwana kondoo wa mungu uliyechinjwa,
upewe heshima, sifa na uwezo
mwana kondoo wa mungu uliyechinjwa,
wastahili, wastahili, wastahili
mwana kondoo wa Mungu, uliyechinjwa
(mwana kondoo wa mungu)
wastahili, wastahili, wastahili
mwana kondoo wa Mungu, uliyechinjwa
uliyenilipia deni, ukanitoa kwenye aibu,
ukanifanya mwana wako
umenitoa kwenye matope haukuniacha nizame yesu
wastahili mwanakondoo wa mungu uliyechinjwa,
(milele)
wastahili, wastahili, wastahili
mwana kondoo wa Mungu, uliyechinjwa
(umeinuliwa)
wastahili, wastahili, wastahili
mwana kondoo wa Mungu, uliyechinjwa
Mbinguni hata duniani, hata chini ya dunia,
hakuna angeyeweza kuniokoa,
malaika wakuabudu
Mwana kondoo wa mungu uliyechinjwa!
ukapewa jina bora, lipitalo majina yote
kwa jina lako, litakiri wewe ni bwana
(umeenzika sana)
wastahili, wastahili, wastahili
mwana kondoo wa Mungu, uliyechinjwa
(tunakuinua)
wastahili, wastahili, wastahili
mwana kondoo wa Mungu, uliyechinjwa

You are worthy, the son of God who was slain

Meaning & Inspiration
“Wastahili Mwanakondoo wa Mungu” is a Swahili song of worship addressed to Jesus as the Lamb of God who was slain. Its repeated declaration of worthiness gives the lyric a clear center: the Lamb deserves honor, praise, and power. The verses support that confession with testimony about release from debt, shame, danger, and death, portraying salvation as an act of divine mercy.
The song’s language strongly echoes Revelation’s vision of heavenly worship, where the slain Lamb receives power and honor. It also celebrates Christ’s victory over death, his exaltation beside the Father, and the name above every name. References to becoming God’s chosen possession and royal people connect personal rescue with a new identity in God’s kingdom. As the refrain returns, private testimony expands into the worship of heaven and earth. The lyric therefore joins gratitude for deliverance with reverence for Christ’s authority, repeatedly confessing that the crucified and risen Lamb alone is worthy.
