Meaning & Inspiration
“Potter (Refix)” by Minister GUC is a Nigerian worship song that uses the potter and clay image. The English lines say, “You are the Potter and I am the clay, Lord, make me as You wish,” and add that the singer has no say because God knows the end. The verse recalls the promise that He will never leave nor forsake.
The refrain in Ibibio, “Anana Mbiet Abasi oh,” is repeated, followed by lines that ask for His hand. The second verse speaks of feeling damaged, rejected and broken by fear, and then of being rescued and given life, hope and peace. The bridge returns to the Potter who knows the singer’s make and has been the center of life.
The themes are close to Isaiah 64:8, Jeremiah 18:6 and Hebrews 13:5, on God as the potter, the clay in His hand and His promise never to leave.
