Lyrics

Praise the Lord!
His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness, new every morn
Our sins, they are many, His mercy is more  .

What love could remember no wrongs we have done
Omniscient, all-knowing, He counts not their sum
Thrown into a sea without bottom or shore
Our sins, they are many, His mercy is more  .

Praise the Lord!
His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness, new every morn
Our sins, they are many, His mercy is more  .

What patience would wait as we constantly roam
What Father, so tender, is calling us home
He welcomes the weakest, the vilest, the poor
Our sins, they are many, His mercy is more  .

Praise the Lord!
His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness, new every morn
Our sins, they are many, His mercy is more  .

What riches of kindness He lavished on us
His blood was the payment, His life was the cost
We stood 'neath a debt we could never afford
Our sins, they are many, His mercy is more  .

Praise the Lord!
His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness, new every morn
Our sins, they are many, His mercy is more  .

Praise the Lord!
His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness, new every morn
Our sins, they are many, His mercy is more
Our sins, they are many, His mercy is more

Meaning & Inspiration

“His Mercy Is More” contrasts the abundance of human sin with the greater abundance of God’s mercy. Each verse considers a different aspect of that mercy: God does not keep a condemning record, patiently calls wanderers home, welcomes those in need, and bears a cost that sinners could not pay. The recurring chorus answers every confession of failure with praise, making mercy rather than guilt the final word.

Several images closely echo Scripture. Sins disappear into a depth beyond measure, while mercy arrives new each morning. The description of divine kindness being lavished upon undeserving people also reflects the biblical connection between grace, redemption, and Christ’s blood. By repeating “our sins, they are many, His mercy is more,” the song does not minimize wrongdoing. Instead, it magnifies the sufficiency of forgiveness and presents praise as the fitting response to God’s patience, welcome, and saving work.
