Meaning & Inspiration
“Praise Medley” by Joe Mettle joins several African praise songs into one continuous set. It begins with “Turning around for me,” then moves to “Jehovah turns my life around” and “He makes a way where there seems to be no way,” wording close to Isaiah 43:19. The medley then asks “Who has the final say,” and answers that Jehovah does, adding in Nigerian Pidgin, “Abi you no know say Jehovah na God.”
The set shifts to Swahili with “Yesu ni wangu wa uzima wa milele,” Jesus is my life forever, and then to English: “Jesus is my Lord, I will praise Him forevermore.” A Yoruba section follows with the name of Jesus, and the last part declares “Jehovah reigns” and that He is lifted up above other gods, which echoes Psalm 97:1 and 97:9.
Because the languages change from section to section, the medley feels like a gathering of the whole continent in worship. The message is that God rules over every circumstance and deserves praise in every tongue.
