Jemimmah Thiong'o - Mipango Ya Mungu Lyrics

Lyrics

Mipango ya mungu ni ya ajabu.
Mipango ya mungu haipangapo
hakuna mwanadamu yeyote
haweza kuipangua mipango ya mungu.

Kila mtu ana riziki yake .
Kila mtu ana baraka zake.
Mafanyikio maishani mwetu
huenda sambamba na mipango ya mungu .

Mipango ya mungu ni ya ajabu .
Mipango ya mungu haipangapo
hakuna mwanadamu aweza
kuipangua mipango ya mungu.

Kuzaliwa malezi na elimu
sijivune mungu ndiye aliyepanga.
Alipanga upate hivi vyote
ili ukaweze kumtukuza kwazo.

Mipango ya mungu ni ya ajabu.
Mipango ya mungu aipangapo
hakuna mwanadamu yeyote
aweza kuipangua mipango ya mungu.

Alipanga mchana kuwe jua
akapanga usiku kuwe mwezi
giza usiku na mwanga mchana.
Ni nani atayesema.
Aweza kuipangua.

Mipango ya mungu ni ya ajabu
mipango ya mungu aipangapo
hakuna mwanadamu yeyote
aweza kuipangua mipango ya mungu.

Meaning & Inspiration

When Jemimmah Thiong’o dropped Mipango Ya Mungu back in February 2015, she hit on a truth that we often need to hear when our lives feel chaotic or out of control. The title itself, meaning "God’s Plans," points to the bedrock of our faith: the absolute sovereignty of the Creator. We spend so much energy trying to curate our circumstances, but Jemimmah reminds us that God’s plans are truly beyond our reach. When she sings that no human can undo what He has established, she is echoing the wisdom of Isaiah 46:10, where the Lord declares that His purpose will stand and He will accomplish all His will. It is a bold defiance of our modern obsession with autonomy.

The lyrics move beyond just general providence and land squarely on the personal nature of God’s grace. By stating that every person has their own portion of blessings, she brings the theology of election and individual calling down to earth. This is the reality of Psalm 139:16, where every day ordained for us was written in His book before one of them came to be. We often mistake our status, our education, or our worldly success for the result of our own grinding, but Jemimmah strips that pride away. She insists that our achievements are just part of the blueprint God drew up long ago, specifically so we can point back to Him in praise. It is a direct challenge to the idol of self-sufficiency.

When she points to the sun and the moon—the day and the night—she draws a clear parallel to the creation account in Genesis. Just as surely as He set the luminaries in the sky, He has set the seasons of our lives. You cannot bargain with the sun to stay up past its appointed time, and you cannot bargain with God to alter the path He has marked for your life. To try to fight the direction He is taking you is a fool’s errand. You are not meant to rearrange the architecture of your existence; you are meant to live within the walls He has built. When you stop fighting the sovereignty of God, you finally find the freedom to walk in the specific calling He has already secured for you.
