“Ejwale,” sung by Spirit of Praise Choir in this live lockdown-edition performance, is a choir hymn in Setswana built on call and response. The opening line, “Ejwale ke tla goroga ka la Sione,” and the repeated “mootseng wa Sione” point toward Zion, and the singer says “ke tsepile,” a statement of confidence, as the choir answers each phrase.
The middle verse turns to a personal confession. Lines such as “ngwana wa Modimo” (child of God) and a reference to the one who paid for sins present salvation as the ground of that confidence.
