Meaning & Inspiration
“The Future” by Dunsin Oyekan is a vision-based worship song. It begins, “I have seen the future, revival is here,” and describes the whole world worshiping the Lord with Jesus raised “like a banner” in the sky and every tongue and nation bowing to the King. The leader asks the congregation, “Can you see it?” and answers, “I can see it.”
The song then moves to a chorus of “Ogo,” the Yoruba word for glory, with “Halle hallelujah.” The bridge says all the nations of the world will sing that Jesus is the Lord, and it is sung in English, French, Hindi and Spanish. The same refrain of glory is repeated in each language, so the singing itself acts out the vision.
The lyrics are close to Philippians 2:10-11, Revelation 7:9 and Isaiah 11:10, which speak of every tongue confessing Jesus and the nations gathering around Him. The song is joyful, repeated and made for many voices.
