Meaning & Inspiration
“While I Waited” by Delana Hope is a song about finding renewal during a delay. The first verse describes an enemy whispering that it is over and that God has forgotten the singer’s name, and the reply is to lift the eyes to the God who heals, restores, and strengthens the weak. The chorus says that while the singer waited, God renewed and lifted the head, turning tears into seeds and sobs into worship.
The line “They that wait upon the Lord shall rise again” is a paraphrase of Isaiah 40:31, and the bridge quotes the same verse with “shall renew their strength.” The picture of tears becoming a harvest is close to Psalm 126:5-6.
