“The Blood” is a worship song about being changed by the blood of Christ. The first verse describes a life that no longer looks the same: the singer does not walk or talk as before, and says, “I’ve been washed from the inside out.” The chorus answers with “Hallelujah” and the plain claim, “I know it was the blood.”
The second verse admits the experience cannot be fully explained, yet nothing is more real, as shame falls away and sin meets the Most High. The two bridges then speak directly to listeners, saying forgiveness is never about performance, deserving, or earning, and that holiness and worthiness come “only by the blood.” That is close to Ephesians 1:7, which speaks of redemption through His blood, and 1 John 1:7, which says the blood of Jesus cleanses from all sin.
The ending turns to thanks: “Thank You is not enough.” The closing refrain calls the blood precious and generous and says Jesus paid in full. The song’s message is that salvation is a gift, received and not earned.
