Meaning & Inspiration
“He Is Here” by John Wilds and Bethany Wohrle is a congregational song about the presence of God in worship. The first verse says that when two or three are gathered in the name of Jesus, He is here. The pre-chorus calls the room to sing a hallelujah, and the chorus invites people to praise, lift their hands, give thanks and raise a shout.
The second verse asks listeners to come with expectation to the King of all creation and to notice the stirring and the work of God. The bridge praises the Father, the Spirit and the Son, calling Him Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the One who has come and is coming again. It repeats that our God is in the room.
The opening line is close to Matthew 18:20, and the bridge recalls Revelation 22:13 and Revelation 1:8. The call to praise is close to Psalm 100:4. The song is warm, direct and written for a church to sing together.
