Lyrics
Holy, holy, holy
Lord, God Almighty
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee
Holy, holy, holy
Merciful and mighty
God in three persons blessed Trinity
Holy, holy, holy
Though the darkness hide Thee
Though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see
Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee
Perfect in power, in love, and purity
Holy, holy, holy
Lord, God Almighty
All Thy works shall praise
Thy name in earth and sky and sea
Holy, holy, holy
Merciful and mighty
God in three persons blessed Trinity

Meaning & Inspiration
“Holy Holy Holy” is a hymn of adoration centered on God’s holiness, majesty, mercy, and might. Morning praise rises to the Lord, while the repeated threefold “holy” gives the lyric a reverent rhythm associated with heavenly worship. The description of God as Trinity places Father, Son, and Holy Spirit within a single confession of divine glory.
The middle stanza acknowledges the limits caused by human sin: darkness may obscure sight, yet it cannot diminish God’s purity. Holiness belongs uniquely to Him, joined with perfect power and love. The final stanza broadens the hymn from a morning song to the praise of all creation, naming earth, sky, and sea as witnesses to the Lord’s greatness. Its repetition is not empty emphasis but sustained worship, returning to the attributes that define the song. Across each stanza, awe and assurance remain together: the Almighty is exalted beyond human sight, yet also merciful and worthy of praise.
