About Youthful Praise
Youthful Praise is an American gospel choir led by director and composer J.J. Hairston. The group originated at Turner's Faith Temple in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where it was first known as Teens of TFT. Founded in 1991 as a church choir, Youthful Praise eventually grew beyond its local congregation to become a nationally recognized ensemble.
The choir released its debut album, Awesome God, in 2001. Several albums followed, including Thank You for the Change (2004), Live! The Praise... The Worship (2005), Exalted (2007), Resting On His Promise (2009), After This (2012), I See Victory (2014), and You Deserve It (2017). Youthful Praise has performed on national platforms such as Good Morning America and the Stellar Gospel Music Awards. J.J. Hairston serves as the Minister of Music at City of Praise Family Ministries.
The choir has received several notable honors. Youthful Praise was nominated for the 2003 Stellar Awards in the categories of Choir of the Year and Contemporary Choir of the Year. In 2018, the group won six Stellar Gospel Music Awards, along with a Billboard Music Award and an ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Award. That same year, the song “You Deserve It” reached number one on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs Chart.
