Skillet

Skillet is an American Christian rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1996. The band began as a side project by the pastor of Covenant Community Church in Memphis. John Cooper, who remains the only original member, leads the group on vocals and bass. The current lineup also includes Korey Cooper on rhythm guitar and keyboards, Jen Ledger on drums and vocals, and Seth Morrison on lead guitar.

Over the years, Skillet has released twelve studio albums. These include their self-titled debut Skillet (1996), the breakthrough Comatose (2006), the multi-platinum Awake (2009), and later releases such as Dominion (2022). Their catalog also includes albums like Rise and Victorious. The band has earned recognition from both Christian and mainstream audiences, with songs such as “Monster,” “Hero,” “Feel Invincible,” “Legendary,” “Sick of It,” and “Whispers in the Dark” becoming staples of their sound.

Skillet’s achievements include multiple Grammy Award nominations and numerous GMA Dove Awards. In 2008, they won the Dove Award for Rock Song of the Year for “Comatose.” They repeated that honor in 2013 for “Sick of It.” The band also received a Billboard Music Award for Top Christian Album for Awake in 2011. In 2014, Rise won the Dove Award for Rock Album of the Year. More recently, in 2020, Victorious and its single “Legendary” earned Dove Awards for Rock Contemporary Album of the Year and Rock Contemporary Song of the Year.

The band has also achieved significant commercial success, with the RIAA certifying “Monster” as 3x Platinum and “Hero” as 2x Platinum. Albums such as Comatose and Awake have reached Platinum and Double Platinum status, respectively. Throughout its career, Skillet has maintained its Christian faith identity while navigating both the Christian and mainstream rock music industries.
