About Mark Bishop
Mark Bishop is a Christian music artist based in east-central Kentucky who has built a four-decade career in Southern Gospel music. He began his professional music journey in 1984 as a co-founder of the family group The Bishops, alongside his father Kenneth and brother Kenny. The group was active for seventeen years before retiring in 2001, after which Bishop launched a solo career. He records for Sonlite Records, a division of Crossroads Music, and is an active member of the Waco Church of the Nazarene in Kentucky.
Bishop is a prolific songwriter whose compositions have been recorded by a range of gospel artists, including The Kingsmen, Legacy Five, and Brian Free and Assurance. His own recorded catalog includes the album Beautiful Day and the singles “You Better Go Read It” and “The Fishing Pole.” He also produced the album Kentucky Bluegrass. Among his well-known songs are “You Can’t Ask Too Much of My God,” “Reach the World,” and “When Jesus is All That I Have.”
His work has earned significant recognition over the years. The album Beautiful Day received a Grammy nomination for Best Roots Gospel Album in 2020. In 2000, Bishop won a Dove Award for producing the Best Bluegrass Gospel Album of the Year for Kentucky Bluegrass. He was voted Soloist of the Year at the Singing News Fan Awards in 2005, and in 2022 he received the J.D. Sumner Living Legend Award from SGN Scoops Magazine. In 2024, he celebrated forty years of ministry in gospel music.
