About James Fortune
James Fortune is an urban contemporary gospel recording artist, songwriter, and producer. He was born on November 29, 1978, in Richmond, Texas, and served as a choir director at Higher Dimension Church in Houston, Texas. He is the founder and CEO of the record label FIYAWORLD Music and has also worked as a radio personality on 1190 AM WLIB.
Fortune released his debut album, You Survived, in 2004. The album’s title track earned him an ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Music Award, and he received an ASCAP Writers Award in 2006. His 2008 single “I Trust You” became a major success, holding the No. 1 spot on Gospel radio for 29 weeks.
Following that breakthrough, Fortune continued to release albums including The Transformation (2008), Identity (2012), and Live Through It (2014). He has been nominated for Grammy Awards, including nominations for Best Gospel Album and Best Gospel Song. In 2012, he topped Billboard’s “Best of 2012 Gospel Songs/Artists List.” His later singles include “Hold On” (2012), “Nobody Like Jesus” (2020), and “Voyage” (2023). Fortune is a multi-time ASCAP award-winning songwriter.
