Emachichi

Emachichi, the stage name of Emmanuel Chibanda, was a Congolese-born Kenyan gospel musician who gained popularity in East Africa during the 1990s and early 2000s. His music often featured lyrics in Swahili and Lingala, set to Congolese rumba and soukous rhythms. He was signed to the Africha Entertainment (CBS) Limited record label.

Among Emachichi’s recorded songs are “Mwambie Yesu,” “Mpokee Yesu,” “Mimi Ndimi Njia,” “Aminisamehe,” “Nalia,” “My Redeemer,” “Liko Lango,” and “Kazi Yangu.” These tracks reflect his distinctive blend of East African gospel with Central African melodies.

Emachichi was married to Grace Wanjiru Wanjui, and the couple had a daughter named Joy Odet Chibanda. He passed away in November 2006 in Mombasa, Kenya. His music continues to be remembered in the East African gospel scene.
