About David Meece
David Meece is a contemporary Christian musician whose career has blended classical piano training with faith-centered songwriting. Born on May 26, 1952, in Humble, Texas, he was a child piano prodigy who began touring as a concert pianist at age ten. He later attended the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland, on a full scholarship, where he experienced a religious conversion and committed his life to Jesus. Following graduation, he served as a worship and youth pastor.
His debut album, David, was released on the Myrrh label in 1976. Meece is known for incorporating classical piano influences into his contemporary Christian music and has been featured as a soloist with the Houston Symphony and the Houston Chamber Orchestra. His catalog includes the albums Front Row (1982), Count the Cost (1983), 7 (1985), and Learning to Trust (1989). Among his best-known songs are “We Are the Reason,” “Seventy Times Seven,” and “One Small Child.”
Meece’s career has been recognized with several honors. He was inducted into the Christian Music Hall of Fame in 2008, received the 2009 Visionary Award for the Inspirational Male Soloist category, and was awarded the AMG Heritage Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012. He also earned an Emmy nomination for Best Arrangement/Composer of a Television Theme Song for “Hands of Hope” in 2012.
