About Darwin Hobbs
Darwin Hobbs, born Darwin Todd Hobbs on November 30, 1968, in Cincinnati, Ohio, is an American gospel music singer and worship pastor. Known for a vocal style often compared to soul singer Luther Vandross, he moved to Nashville in 1996 to pursue a music career after encouragement from music director Roger Ryan. Over the years, he has worked extensively as a session vocalist for artists including CeCe Winans, Michael W. Smith, and Jars of Clay.
Hobbs released his first album, Mercy, in 1999, followed by Vertical in 2000, which reached No. 26 on the Billboard Gospel chart. His 2003 album Broken climbed to No. 3 on the same chart, while Worshipper (2005) peaked at No. 8. In 2008, he released Free and also launched a blog titled "Break the Silence" to provide resources for emerging leaders. His 2010 album Champion reached No. 6 on the Billboard Gospel chart and received two Stellar Award nominations; the live recording Champion: Live won a Stellar Gospel Music Award for Praise & Worship CD of the Year.
In addition to his recording career, Hobbs has served as a worship pastor and creative director at several churches, including the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, New York. He also appeared in the 2001 HBO movie Boycott. His catalog includes songs such as "Everyday" (featuring Michael McDonald) and "He's Able."
