Daddy Owen

Daddy Owen is a Kenyan contemporary Christian music and gospel artist. Born Owen Mwatia on January 29, 1982, in Kakamega, Kenya, he is the brother of Kenyan gospel musician Rufftone. He is a member of the Kenya Assemblies of God Church in Buru Buru, Nairobi, and has been active in the music industry since 2003. He is signed to the Beats & Blessings label.

Owen is known for popularizing a musical style called "Kapungala," which blends gospel music with Lingala sounds. His album releases include Haijalishi (2004), Son of Man (2006), Kapungala (2008), and Vanity (2016). Among his songs are "Mbona," "Tobina," "Saluti," and "Kiriro."

Over his career, Owen has received several music awards. He won the Groove Awards Male Artist of the Year in 2009, 2010, and 2011. In 2010, he received the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) Best Anglophone Artist award. He was also named Artist of the Year at the Kisima Music Awards in 2012. Outside of music, he founded the Malaika Disability Foundation, which supports individuals with disabilities.
