About Canon
Canon is the stage name of Aaron Marcellis McCain, a Christian hip-hop artist, producer, and audio/video engineer. Born March 1, 1989, in Chicago, Illinois, he was raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and later resided in Nashville, Tennessee. He attended Bible College in Memphis, where he met mentors Derek Minor and Lecrae. Canon began his career as a hype man for Lecrae and is a member of the Reflection Music Group.
In 2014, Canon survived a near-death accident after falling down a ravine, resulting in a broken jaw, shattered ankle, and concussion. His music is noted for its high-energy, cinematic sound and themes of resilience and faith. That same year, his EP Loose Canon, Vol. 2 reached number 101 on the Billboard 200 chart, and the Loose Canon mixtape series has charted on Billboard’s Top Rap Albums list.
Canon’s early catalog includes the EP Loose Canon (2012) and the album Mad Haven (2013). After his accident, he released Loose Canon, Vol. 2 (2014), followed by Loose Canon, Vol. 3 (2016) and Home (2018). He collaborated on the project Whole Team Winning (2019) and released the album We Made It (2021). His album Vigilante arrived in 2025.
