Meaning & Inspiration
The Blessings is a country song of thanks for the good things in life. The first verse looks at the night stars and wonders how one man can have so much, then lists food on the table, a log on the fire and love in the home, concluding that the singer ought to give thanks. The chorus repeats that the blessings are sent from above and that the singer wants to give thanks for them.
The second verse admits that sleep sometimes comes before thanks are said, then quotes the bedtime prayer "I pray the Lord my soul to keep" and thanks God for giving more than is deserved.
