Built almost entirely around a single title-phrase, the song treats covenant faithfulness less as a doctrine to explain than a name to repeat: "covenant keeping God, Yahweh." The verses draw directly on Psalm 91's promises of protection — sun that will not strike, moon that will not harm, floodwaters that will not overwhelm — and the lyrics quote the psalm outright, naming it by number before paraphrasing its picture of angels sent to guard every step. That direct citation is unusual; most of the song simply assumes its listeners already know the text being echoed.
The shift from first person to second person partway through — from "You never leave me" to "He will never leave you" — turns a personal confession into something offered to someone else, extending the same promise outward. Nothing in the lyrics qualifies or hedges the claim; the covenant is presented as settled rather than conditional, closer to the unconditional language of Deuteronomy 31:6 than to a promise contingent on present circumstance.
