Meaning & Inspiration
“Come In” is a song of welcome and trust that draws on Psalm 24, the psalm where the gates are told to lift up their heads so the King of glory may enter. The repeated chorus, “Let the King of glory in,” is an invitation from the singer, who asks the Lord to take His place. The verses first describe who this King is: a mighty warrior, great in battle, a defender who has already won.
The verses also draw from Psalm 121:1 in “I will lift up my eyes to the hills where my help comes from,” and from the language of Psalm 18:2 in calling the Lord a shield and fortress, so that the singer says “I fear no one.” The second verse names God as provider, “Jireh,” and says chains are broken and blind eyes opened.
The closing section is pure praise to the Lord of hosts who redeemed the soul, holds authority, and sets captives free. The song moves from confidence to invitation to praise.
