Feel (the Spirit) the Spirit (the Spirit) movin' (Feel it, feel it)
Feel (the Spirit) the Spirit (the Spirit) movin' (I wanna feel the Spirit, yeah)
Feel (the Spirit) the Spirit (the Spirit) movin' (I can feel it deep down in my soul)
Feel (the Spirit) the Spirit (the Spirit) movin'
Chorus 1:
Every time I (Every time)
Feel the Spirit (I feel it)
Movin' in my heart (When it's movin')
I will pray (Said I'll pray)
Yes, every time I (Every, every time)
feel the Spirit (Feel it, feel it, feel it)
Movin' in my heart (When it's movin')
I will pray (When it's movin' I will pray)
Chorus 2:
Every time I (Every time I)
Feel the Spirit (I feel the Spirit)
Movin' in my heart (Can't you feel it, can't you feel it)
I will pray (Can't you feel the Spirit movin')
Yes, every time I (Yeah)
Feel the Spirit (Whoa, yeah)
Movin' in my heart (Oo)
I will pray
Upon the mountain my Lord spoke (my Lord spoke)
Out of his mouth came fire and smoke (came fire and smoke)
When I looked all around me everything looked so fine
I asked my Lord if all was mine
Chorus 3:
Every time I
Feel the Spirit
Movin' in my heart
I will pray
Yes, every time I
feel the Spirit
Movin' in my heart
I will pray
Solo over top of chorus 3:
Oh every time, oh every time
It makes me wanna pray
If you wanna shout it, pray
Oh yeah, hey
Jordan's River, chilly and cold
Chills the body but not the soul
There ain't but one train upon this track
That runs to heaven and it runs right back
Repeat Chorus 3 (x2)
Solo over top of chorus 3:
When my heart is open, I feel the Spirit
Oh yes, oh yes, indeed
He lives in my heart, oh yes, He does
Yeah, every time I feel it
I will pray
Feel the Spirit (Every time I can feel it)
Feel the Spirit (down in my soul)
Feel the Spirit (Oo, I've been there)
Feel the Spirit (Feel the Spirit)
I can feel Him moving
Feel the Spirit (Sure, I feel it)
Feel the Spirit (Sure, I feel it)
Feel the Spirit (Spirit in me)
Feel the Spirit (Spirit in me)
I can feel Him moving
Moving in my soul, moving in my soul
Moving in my soul
Every time I feel Him moving
Feel the Spirit (Can you feel it)
Feel the Spirit (Can you feel it)
Feel the Spirit (Oo, I feel it)
Feel the Spirit (Yes, I feel it)

Meaning & Inspiration
Everytime I Feel the Spirit builds an energetic call to prayer around a traditional spiritual refrain. The repeated movement of the Spirit in the heart leads directly to prayer, while overlapping responses give the words a communal, testimony-like character. Images of a mountain, fire, smoke, the Jordan River, and a train bound for heaven connect spiritual experience with biblical memory and the hope of eternal life.
The mountain scene recalls Exodus 19:18, where Sinai is covered in smoke as God descends in fire. The central refrain may also be heard alongside Romans 8:26, which associates the Spirit with help in prayer. Rather than presenting prayer as a detached duty, the song portrays it as an immediate answer to divine activity within the soul. Its call-and-response lines keep returning to that single conviction: awareness of the Spirit produces prayer, praise, and confidence that bodily hardship cannot extinguish the life of the soul.
