"Nothing But Prayer" traces a turn from misdirected living toward dependence on the Lord. The verses describe someone who has gone astray, looked to friends for direction, and come to see that that path cannot provide lasting life. A conversation then introduces the refrain's answer: prayer, repeated as the sole response and joined with an invitation to leave trouble with the Lord.
