Lyrics

VERSE 1

Son of God, precious One

You left Your radiant throne and glory

And came down from heaven’s heights

In search of the ones You love

VERSE 2

Son of God, blameless One

You bore the brunt of shame and death

Nail-pierced hands and wounded flesh

To ransom the ones You love

CHORUS

You bled for me on the cross at Calvary

And You laid Your Crown for my joy and victory

What a sacrifice, just so I could breathe this life

My hope forever, my Jesus Christ

VERSE 3

Son of God, saving One

Three days buried in the ground

Then You rose, from grave to life

To redeem the ones You love

For we are the ones You love

BRIDGE

Hallelujah

How You love me, how You love me

Hallelujah

How

You love me, how You love me

Hallelujah

How You love me, how You love me

VERSE 4

Son of God, risen One

You freely gave so I may live

So I bring, this offering

And praise to the One I love

All praise to the One we love

Meaning & Inspiration

What A Sacrifice traces the Christian confession from the incarnation to the cross, burial, resurrection, and a response of praise. Jesus is named as the Son of God who leaves glory, bears shame and death, and gives his life for those he loves. The chorus makes Calvary the center of hope and victory, while the later verses move beyond the grave to risen life. Its repeated hallelujah turns the account of sacrifice into worship.

Philippians 2:6-8 closely matches the opening movement, describing Christ humbling himself and becoming obedient to death on a cross. The declaration that Christ was buried and raised on the third day is also stated in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4. These connections support the lyric without requiring claims beyond its words. The final offering is praise rather than repayment, recognizing that the life described in the song is received through Christ. By holding suffering, resurrection, love, and gratitude together, the song presents salvation as both the work of Jesus and the foundation of worship.
