Meaning & Inspiration

There is a specific kind of confidence Ada Ehi hits on with the phrase, “Is on my matter.” If you grew up in or spend time around the Nigerian church scene, you know this isn’t just slang; it’s an admission of total reliance. To say God is “on your matter” means you’ve stopped trying to micromanage the chaos of your own life and handed the steering wheel to the divine. It’s a colloquial shorthand for Psalm 55:22—“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you.”

Ada pulls this into the rhythm of a high-energy pop track, and it works because the urgency of the beat matches the urgency of the prayer. When she switches between English and the Igbo “Obuliwolenue” (You have lifted me up), she’s grounding the theology in a specific cultural heritage. It’s a reminder that worship doesn’t always need to be slow or whispered to be serious. Sometimes the most honest thing you can do when you’re overwhelmed by life is to dance through the anxiety while declaring that a miracle is already happening in real-time.

But I keep coming back to the tension between the "vibe" and the weight of the request. In modern Christian pop, it’s easy for the production to swallow the prayer. You hear the percussion, the bright synths, and the infectious groove, and for a second, you might forget that the lyrics are actually a desperate reach for stability. Ada manages to sidestep that trap, largely because her delivery feels lived-in. She isn't just singing about miracles; she’s singing from the position of someone who has actually been anxious and has decided to stop.

The lyric “I no go worry, I no go fear” is a bold claim. It’s not necessarily a promise that life will be easy, but a declaration of where the mind settles. It reminds me of Philippians 4:6–7. We’re told to be anxious for nothing, yet we live in a world that thrives on us being anxious for everything. To sing “I no go worry” over a dance track is a strange, radical act of defiance. It’s a choice to occupy a space of peace that hasn’t been earned by external circumstances, but granted by grace.

Still, I find myself sitting with the "today, today" refrain. Is it possible to hold onto that expectation of a miracle every single day? We often talk about faith as if it’s a light switch—you flip it, and the lights are on. But the reality is much messier. Some days, the miracle isn't a sudden shift in your circumstances; it’s just the ability to keep standing when you want to fold. Does the track push us toward a shallow hope, or does it invite us to trust in a God who is actually, actively, working on our "matter"? Maybe it’s both. We listen, we dance, and we choose to believe it’s true, even when the evidence isn't quite there yet. That’s the work, isn't it? Choosing the song over the fear.
