LO Worship - Compass Lyrics
Lyrics
In the darkest hour
Right where You told me to be
You call me out on the waters
You say walk with me
But this storm is clouding my vision
I hear the rage of the sea
I see You out int the distance
Your eyes fixed on me
Chorus:
I will keep my eyes fixed on You
Because I know what You say is always true
You word is my vision when I cannot see
Your is the compass that is guiding me
My fear is all but forgotten
I am looking forward in faith
Nothing is holding me back now
I'm running Your way
Chorus:
I will keep my eyes fixed on You
Because I know what You say is always true
You word is my vision when I cannot see
Your is the compass that is guiding
Bridge:
If You said it I believe it
If You said it is done
Your promise will never fail me
To Your promise I am holding on
I will keep my eyes fixed on You
Because I know what You say is always true
You word is my vision when I cannot see
Your is the compass that is guiding me

Meaning & Inspiration
There is something about the imagery of walking on water that always stops me in my tracks. It’s not just a miracle; it’s a terrifying, high-stakes moment of obedience. When I sat down to listen to "Compass" by LO Worship, I was immediately pulled back to that account in Matthew 14. You know the one—where Peter steps out of the boat and eventually starts to sink because he stops looking at Jesus and starts looking at the "rage of the sea."
The lyrics acknowledge that tension so honestly: "But this storm is clouding my vision / I hear the rage of the sea." That’s the part I struggle with most. It’s easy to talk about faith when things are calm, but when the wind actually picks up, my eyes have a habit of drifting toward the waves. It’s a recurring theme in my own life, this constant battle between the reality of my circumstances and the reality of God’s voice.
The song captures that internal shift—from the "darkest hour" to choosing where to place my focus. The chorus hits on this idea that "Your word is my vision when I cannot see." I’ve been reading through the Psalms lately, and Psalm 119:105 feels like the heartbeat of this song: "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." It’s striking how similar the metaphors are—a lamp, a light, a compass. When the fog of life rolls in and my own perspective fails, I’m left with the choice of whether or not I truly trust the internal "compass" of God’s promises.
There’s a line in the bridge that caught me off guard: "If You said it I believe it / If You said it is done." There is a bluntness to that statement that feels almost confrontational. It’s a challenge to my own wavering faith. Do I really believe it’s done? Or am I still trying to finish the work myself? Holding onto a promise is hard, especially when the "rage of the sea" feels louder than the whisper of God’s truth.
I’m still processing what it means to be "looking forward in faith" while the storm is still actively raging. The song doesn't pretend the storm isn't there, which I appreciate. It doesn’t offer a cheap, easy fix. Instead, it offers a redirection of the gaze. It reminds me that even when my eyes get distracted, His eyes are already fixed on me. That’s the anchor, isn't it? My ability to hold onto Him is flimsy at best, but His ability to keep His gaze on me is unchanging.
I think I’ll be keeping this one on repeat for a while, mostly because I need the reminder that my compass isn't broken—I just have to stop looking at the waves and look back at the One who called me out onto the water in the first place. It’s a simple thought, but it’s the hardest one to actually live out.
