Don Moen - He Never Sleeps Lyrics
Lyrics
He never sleeps He never slumbers
He never tires of hearing our prayer
When we are weak He becomes stronger
So rest in His love and cast all of your cares
On Him
When you've prayed every prayer
That you know how to pray
Just remember the Lord will hear
And the answer is on its way
Our God is able
He is mighty
He is faithful
Do you feel that the Lord
Has forgotten your need
Just remember that God
Is always working in ways you cannot see
Our God is able
He is mighty
He is faithful

Meaning & Inspiration
I keep coming back to those first lines about how He never sleeps or slumbers. It’s straight from Psalm 121, isn't it? That idea that the One who keeps Israel doesn't nod off is such a heavy comfort when you’re laying in bed at 3 a.m. feeling like everything is falling apart. But then the song says the answer is on its way, and I start to wonder if that’s always true in the way we want it to be. It’s easy to sing about God being able and mighty when things are going okay, but what about when the answer doesn't look like an answer at all?
It’s definitely rooted in the idea of casting your cares on Him, like Peter wrote about, because the weight of it all is just too much to carry alone. I like the part about Him working in ways we can't see, because that matches that verse about how His ways are higher than ours. Still, I find myself wrestling with the promise that the answer is coming. Does that mean I’m guaranteed a specific result, or just that He’s present? I guess if He’s faithful, maybe the answer isn't a "thing" I get, but just the fact that He stayed awake with me while I was falling apart. It’s just hard to trust that He’s working when the silence feels so loud, and I’m not sure if the song gives me enough room for that kind of doubt. I want to believe it, but I’m still figuring out if the peace it talks about is meant to be a feeling or just a stubborn choice to keep trusting, even when the horizon stays empty.
