Sanctus Real - Confidence Lyrics

Lyrics

I'm not a warrior

I'm too afraid to lose

I feel unqualified for what you're calling me to

But Lord with your strength

I've got no excuse

'Cause broken people are exactly who you use

So give me faith like Daniel in the lion's den

Give me hope like Moses in the wilderness

Give me a heart like David, Lord be my defense

So I can face my giants with confidence

You took a shepherd boy

And made him a King

So I'm gonna trust you and give you everything

I'll be a conquerer

'Cause you fight for me

I'll be a champion claiming your victory

So give me faith like Daniel in the lion's den

Give me hope like Moses in the wilderness

Give me a heart like David, Lord be my defense

So I can face my giants with confidence

I'm gonna sing and shout and shake the walls

I won't stop until I see 'em fall

Gonna stand up, step out when you call

Jesus, Jesus

I'm gonna sing and shout and shake the walls

I won't stop until I see 'em fall

Gonna stand up, step out when you call

Jesus

So give me faith like Daniel in the lion's den

Give me hope like Moses in the wilderness

Give me a heart like David, Lord be my defense

So I can face my giants with confidence, yeah

Give me faith like Daniel in the lion's den

Give me hope like Moses in the wilderness

Give me a heart like David, Lord be my defense

So I can face my giants with confidence

I'll face my giants with confidence

Meaning & Inspiration

Sanctus Real has a habit of leaning into the familiar in Changed, and "Confidence" is the epitome of that. As an editor, I’m looking for the trim. The chorus repeats until it borders on exhaustion, which risks diluting the initial sting of the verses. We don’t need the wall-shaking metaphors to be hammered home quite so many times; the real grit is hidden in the first few lines.

The 'Power Line' of this track is simple: “Broken people are exactly who you use.”

It works because it strips away the performance art of modern faith. We are obsessed with the optics of being ready—of having our ducks in a row before we step into a calling. But this line reframes inadequacy not as a barrier, but as the primary criteria. It echoes 2 Corinthians 12:9, where the strength of God is made perfect in weakness. The moment you admit you aren’t a warrior, you’re finally in a position to be used by one. That’s a uncomfortable reality for those of us who like to feel in control of our own ministries or lives.

The rest of the track pivots into a catalog of biblical heavy hitters: Daniel, Moses, David. It’s effective, sure, but it’s a bit safe. When you invoke the "lions' den" or the "wilderness," you're leaning on history rather than the messy present. It’s easy to sing about having the faith of a prophet when you’re standing in a studio, but the lyrics gain weight only when you actually feel the fear mentioned in the opening lines.

I’m left wondering if we really want what we’re asking for. Moses spent years wandering and protesting his own inability to speak. David spent half his life on the run from a king he was supposed to replace. These aren't just figures of "confidence"; they were people who were perpetually shoved into situations they didn't want and weren't prepared for.

When Sanctus Real belts out that they’ll "face my giants," it sounds like a finish line. But the reality is that the giants—the recurring doubts, the actual failures, the quiet anxieties—don't usually fall after one song. They keep showing up. The song would be stronger if it leaned into the ambiguity of that daily persistence rather than just the climax of the shouting. It’s a track that demands a lot of vocal energy, but the true work of faith usually happens in the silence that follows the music, when the walls are still standing and you still have to decide whether to walk forward anyway.
