Lyrics
Verse 1: Chris Brown
Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine
He's been my fourth man in the fire time after time
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood
And what He did for me on Calvary is more than enough
Chorus: Chris Brown
I trust in God, my Savior
The One who will never fail
He will never fail
Verse 2: Chris Brown
Perfect submission, all is at rest
I know the Author of tomorrow has ordered my steps
So this is my story and this is my song
Praising my risen King and Savior all the day long
Chorus: Chris Brown
I trust in God, my Savior
The One who will never fail
He will never fail
I trust in God, my Savior
The One who will never fail
He will never fail
Bridge: Chris Brown
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
That's why I trust Him, that's why I trust Him
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
That's why I trust Him, that's why I trust Him
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
That's why I trust Him, that's why I trust Him
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
That's why I trust Him
Chorus: Chris Brown
That's why I trust in God, my Savior
The One who will never fail
He will never fail
Oh, I trust in God, my Savior
The One who will never fail
He will never fail
I sought the Lord
Bridge: Chris Brown
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord (And He delivered me from all my fears)
I sought the Lord (From everything)
And He heard and He answered, oh
That's why I trust Him, that's why I trust Him
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered
That's why I trust Him, that's why I trust in God

Meaning & Inspiration
‘Trust in God’ combines language from the hymn ‘Blessed Assurance’ with direct declarations of confidence in God. The opening verse identifies salvation through Jesus, the work of Calvary, and God’s presence in the fire. A later verse adapts the hymn’s themes of submission, story, and song, but points them toward the risen King and confidence that God directs what lies ahead.
The bridge is rooted in the psalms: the singer seeks the Lord, receives an answer, and is delivered from fear. Its extensive repetition turns that biblical statement into the reason for the chorus rather than introducing a separate idea. References to the fourth figure in the furnace recall Daniel’s account of faithful men preserved in the fire, while the language of ordered steps suggests trust in God’s guidance. The song presents assurance as dependence upon a Savior who does not fail. Praise for past rescue supports confidence about tomorrow, with Christ’s death and resurrection remaining central to that trust.
