Monica Scott - Children Of God Lyrics
Lyrics
We never have to wonder
Who we really are
We are children of our Father
Who loves us all.
We can turn to Him in prayer
He will always be there
Heaven's not so far
When we know who we are
Chorus:
We are children of God
Sent from above
We can be the light
We will show the world His love
We are children of God
Verse 2:
We never have to wonder
If He's really there
We are children of our Father
Who’s always near.
We can turn to Him in prayer
He will always be there
Heaven's not so far
When we know who we are
We are children of God
Sent from above
We can be the light
We will show the world His love
We are children of God

We are Children of God Song - by Monica Scott
Meaning & Inspiration
I keep thinking about the way this song puts so much weight on us knowing who we are. It’s comforting, sure, being told we’re children of our Father, and that isn't wrong—it’s right there in John 1 where it talks about the right to become children of God. That’s a massive reality. But hearing the lyrics, I found myself getting a little hung up on that idea of being sent from above. I’m trying to remember if the Bible actually puts us in that category. I know Christ was sent from the Father, and we’re adopted into that family, but are we sent in the same way? Maybe it’s just a way of saying we have a purpose here, like being a light, which I get, because that’s straight out of Matthew 5.
It feels good to hear that heaven isn't far when we know our identity, and I guess that’s about the nearness of the Kingdom of God, but sometimes I wonder if we make our own identity the main thing rather than just resting in His. Is it really about us knowing who we are, or is it more about knowing who He is? There’s a part of me that wants to believe it’s that simple, just turning to Him in prayer and knowing He’s near. But then I think about the cost of that relationship—the cross—and this song feels a bit lighter than the weight of that. It’s peaceful, but I’m left wondering if the comfort of being a child of God is something we’re supposed to hold onto as a kind of internal feeling or if it’s supposed to be something that shakes us up a bit more than this melody does.
