About Mississippi Children's Choir

The Mississippi Children’s Choir was a gospel choir organized in 1990. The group consisted of approximately 200 youth between the ages of seven and seventeen from across Mississippi. It was originally formed to serve as an opening act for the Mississippi Mass Choir. Dorcus Curry Thigpen, the director of the Mississippi Mass Choir, also directed the Mississippi Children’s Choir.

The choir released three albums through Malaco Records between 1992 and 1998. Their debut album, Children of the King, came out in 1992, followed by A New Creation in 1994, and When God’s Children Get Together in 1998. The group’s catalog includes songs such as “His Eye Is On the Sparrow” (featuring Bryan Andrew Wilson), “There Is Hope,” “Child of the King,” “I’m Blessed,” and “Joy of My Salvation.”

Notable alumni of the Mississippi Children’s Choir include gospel artist Bryan Andrew Wilson and BET Sunday Best champion Dathan Thigpen. The group is no longer in existence, as all members have reached adulthood.
