About Colin Buchanan

Colin Buchanan (born 23 May 1964) is an Australian singer, songwriter, and entertainer recognized as a prominent Christian artist in his home country. Born in Dublin, Ireland, he initially worked as a primary school teacher before moving to the Australian outback in 1988 to study at the Cornerstone Community. He gained early recognition in the Australian country music scene, winning his first Golden Guitar award for Best New Talent in 1992.


Buchanan served as a presenter on the ABC television program Play School from 1992 to 1999, and beginning in the mid-1990s, he began producing a series of Christian albums with a specific focus on children’s music. Early releases include Remember the Lord (1996) and the popular novelty song “Aussie Jingle Bells” (with Greg Champion). His commitment to communicating gospel truths through music continued with albums such as God of Wonders (2003) and Jesus, Strong and Kind, alongside adult-oriented projects including Real Hope (2003) and Calvary Road (2017).


Over his career, Buchanan has been a prolific songwriter who collaborated with leading Australian country artists such as Lee Kernaghan, Troy Cassar-Daley, and Adam Brand. His achievements include winning ten Golden Guitar Awards from the Country Music Awards of Australia, the 1997 ARIA Award for Best Children’s Release for Play School In The Car, and multiple APRA Awards for songwriting including for “Hat Town” and “Spirit of the Anzacs.” The album Aussie Christmas (with Bucko & Champs) achieved platinum sales. Buchanan has been identified as Australia’s most successful solo Christian artist, reflecting a long career of blending country music and ministry.
