About Yolanda Adams
Yolanda Yvette Adams is a gospel singer, actress, and former radio host whose work has been rooted in Christian faith and contemporary gospel music. Born on August 27, 1961, in Houston, Texas, she graduated from Texas Southern University and worked as a schoolteacher before pursuing music full-time. Over the course of her career, she has sold more than 10 million albums worldwide.
Adams released her debut album, Just as I Am, in 1987, followed by Through the Storm (1991) and Save the World (1993). Her 1999 album Mountain High… Valley Low helped broaden her audience, and she continued to release well-received projects including Believe (2001), Day by Day (2005), Becoming (2011), and Sunny Days (2024). In 2009, Billboard named her the No. 1 gospel artist of the decade.
Her accomplishments include four Grammy Awards, sixteen Stellar Gospel Music Awards, four Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, five BET Awards, seven NAACP Image Awards, and six Soul Train Music Awards. She was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2017 and into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame in 2022. In 2016, President Barack Obama presented her with the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for her volunteer service. Adams is also the author of Points of Power, a book offering spiritual guidance.
