Whitecross is an American Christian metal band that formed in 1985 in Waukegan, Illinois, founded by vocalist Scott Wenzel and guitarist Rex Carroll. The band's name was chosen to reflect their Christian faith, symbolizing purity and salvation.
Whitecross released their self-titled debut album in 1987. Over the next several years, they built a notable discography that included Hammer & Nail (1988), Triumphant Return (1989), In the Kingdom (1991), High Gear (1992), Unveiled (1994), and Equilibrium (1995). The album In the Kingdom reached No. 12 on Billboard’s Top Contemporary Christian Albums chart.
The band’s work earned recognition at the GMA Dove Awards. Triumphant Return won Metal Album of the Year in 1990, and In the Kingdom won the same award in 1992. At the 25th GMA Dove Awards in 1994, the song “Come unto the Light” won Hard Music Recorded Song of the Year.
Rex Carroll left Whitecross in 1994 to pursue other projects, including the band King James. Scott Wenzel and Carroll re-formed the band in 2000. Decades later, Whitecross released the album Fear No Evil in 2024, marking a continued chapter for the longtime musical partnership.
