About Vengeance Rising

Vengeance Rising was an American thrash metal band based in Los Angeles, California. The group was originally formed in 1987 under the name Vengeance, changing to Vengeance Rising in 1989 to avoid conflict with a Dutch band of the same name. Vocalist Roger Martinez was a pastor in the Pentecostal Foursquare Church during the band’s primary years.

The band’s debut album, Human Sacrifice, was released in 1988 through Intense Records. A second album, Once Dead, followed in 1990. After the Once Dead tour, most of the original members departed to form the band Die Happy. Roger Martinez continued to record under the Vengeance Rising name with a changing lineup for subsequent albums, including Destruction Or Deliverance (1991) and Released Upon the Earth (1992).

In later years, Martinez publicly renounced Christianity, marking a clear departure from the band’s earlier identity within the Christian metal scene of the 1980s.
