About The Williams Brothers
The Williams Brothers are a traditional black gospel music group formed in 1960 in Smithdale, Mississippi, by Leon “Pop” Williams. The original lineup included brothers Doug, Leonard, and Melvin Williams, together with their cousin Henry Green. From these family roots, the quartet built a career that would span decades and help shape the sound of modern gospel.
Recognized for bringing contemporary gospel elements into the traditional quartet style, the group has released more than forty albums. Their catalog includes recordings such as I’m Just a Nobody, Cooling Water, SoulLink Live, Still Here (Live), Hand In Hand, My Brother’s Keeper II, The Journey Continues…., and Songs of Worship, Praise & Deliverance (2014). Over the years, the group’s membership has included Derrick Horne, Maulty “Tuff” Jewell IV, Pharis “June Bug” Evans Jr., Ralph Lofton Jr., and Terrell Midge Gatlin.
The Williams Brothers have received multiple Grammy Award nominations in the Best Traditional Gospel Album category. Twenty-three of their albums have charted on Billboard, primarily on the Gospel Albums chart. In 1999, they were inducted into the International Gospel Music Hall of Fame, a testament to their enduring place in gospel music.
