About Ricky Dillard
Ricky Dillard is a gospel songwriter, singer, and choir director known for his long-standing leadership of the New Generation Chorale (later known as New G). Born Ricky Rydell Dillard on February 25, 1965, in Chicago Heights, Illinois, he began his music career in 1987 working in the Chicago house music scene. The following year, in 1988, he founded the gospel choir Ricky Dillard’s New Generation Chorale. His debut gospel album, Promise, was released in 1990, marking the start of a recording career that has included albums such as A Holy Ghost Take-Over (1993), Hallelujah (1995), Work It Out (1996), No Limit (2000), Keep Living (2011), Amazing (2014), and Choirmaster (2020).
Beyond the recording studio, Dillard has served as a choir director and consultant for several major motion pictures, including Leap of Faith (1992), Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (1993), and The Fighting Temptations (2003). His work has earned multiple Grammy Award nominations over the years. In 2019, he signed a record deal with Motown Gospel.
Dillard’s contributions to gospel music have been recognized with several honors. He received the Traditional Choir of the Year award at the 36th Annual Stellar Awards. At the 37th Annual Stellar Awards, he was honored with the James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also received Congressional Recognition for 35 years of gospel music excellence.
