Relient K is an American rock band formed in 1998 in Canton, Ohio, by founding members Matt Thiessen, Matt Hoopes, and Brian Pittman. The group’s name came from guitarist Matt Hoopes’ Plymouth Reliant K car, with the spelling altered to avoid trademark issues. The band has been associated with the contemporary Christian music culture, specifically the Christian rock and punk scenes.
The band released its self-titled debut album in 2000, followed by The Anatomy of the Tongue in Cheek (2001) and Two Lefts Don’t Make a Right…but Three Do (2003). Their sound evolved over time, and their work earned them a Grammy Award nomination in 2004 for Best Rock Gospel Album. Relient K has also received two Dove Awards, and three of their albums have been certified Gold by the RIAA.
Among their notable releases, Five Score and Seven Years Ago (2007) debuted at No. 6 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. The band’s catalog includes nine studio albums and several EPs, with later albums such as Forget and Not Slow Down (2009), Collapsible Lung (2013), and Air for Free (2016).
