About Kierra Sheard
Kierra Valencia “Kiki” Sheard-Kelly, born on June 20, 1987, in Detroit, Michigan, is a gospel singer, songwriter, and licensed evangelist in the Church of God in Christ. She is the daughter of gospel singer Karen Clark-Sheard and Bishop J. Drew Sheard, and the granddaughter of legendary gospel choral director Mattie Moss Clark. Sheard began singing in the choir at her father’s church, Greater Emmanuel Institutional Church of God in Christ, at age five or six. Her professional recording debut came at age nine on her mother’s 1997 album Finally Karen, which included the song “The Will of God”—a track that earned a Stellar Award for Best Children’s Performance.
Sheard launched her solo career in 2004 with the debut album I Owe You, which made history as the first debut album to enter Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart at No. 1. The album also featured the song “You Don’t Know.” She followed with This Is Me in 2006 and Bold Right Life in 2008. In 2009, she collaborated with Mary Mary on the song “God in Me,” which won a Grammy Award for Best Gospel Song. Later albums include Graceland (2014) and KIERRA (2020). Her single “Something Has to Break” reached number one on the Billboard Hot Gospel Airplay chart.
Sheard holds a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in psychology from Wayne State University. She began preaching in 2013 and became a licensed evangelist in the Church of God in Christ. In 2020, she portrayed her mother, Karen Clark-Sheard, in the Lifetime biographical film The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel. She is also the founder of the fashion line Eleven60 and the women’s ministry SistHer.
