About J.J. Hairston
J.J. Hairston is an American gospel musician, songwriter, producer, and choir director. He is best known as the leader and director of the gospel choir Youthful Praise. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Hairston founded Youthful Praise in the early 1990s in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
In addition to his music career, Hairston serves as the Senior Pastor of The Gathering Place church in Washington, D.C. He is also the founder and CEO of the record label Jamestown Music. Hairston and Youthful Praise have performed on national platforms including Good Morning America and the Stellar Gospel Music Awards.
The song “You Deserve It” became a major success for Hairston and Youthful Praise, reaching No. 1 on four Billboard charts in 2017, including the Hot Gospel Songs Chart. It also earned a 2018 Grammy nomination for Best Gospel Performance/Song. That same year, Hairston and Youthful Praise won six Stellar Gospel Music Awards.
